Andersen is hiring a DevOps Engineer (Kafka Expert) for a global trading group. The role focuses on migrating from RabbitMQ to Apache Kafka to handle trading, payments, BI, and real-time data flows.
The customer is a global online trading group operating in Europe and Asia. Founded in 2007, it has grown from retail forex into multi-asset trading and today serves over 3 million accounts, focusing on innovation, transparency, and accessibility.
The project is a full migration from RabbitMQ to Apache Kafka, which will become the core of the architecture, handling trading orders, quote streams, payment transactions, BI, and real-time data flows.
Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing high-load Kafka architecture, including migration from RabbitMQ.
- Ensuring high availability, zero data loss, and strict consistency guarantees.
- Optimizing cluster performance and infrastructure to meet financial system requirements.
- Configuring monitoring, replication, and supporting the team in Kafka integration.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience implementing, operating, and supporting Kafka in high-load, mission-critical environments for 4+ years.
- Deep knowledge of Kafka internals and architecture.
- Proven experience in designing clusters for very high throughput and low-latency use cases.
- Understanding of hardware, storage, and network configurations and their impact on performance, stability, and failure scenarios.
- Practical experience with replication, partitioning, broker tuning, ISR management, and retention policies at scale.
- Familiarity with side effects and gotchas (e.g., GC pauses, Zookeeper/KRaft issues, producer/consumer tuning, cross-DC replication challenges).
- Strong background in monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting Kafka under extreme load.
- Level of English – from Intermediate plus and above.
