The customer is a large international technology provider delivering end-to-end digital solutions for enterprise-level organizations. The project is focused on a long-term modernization initiative aimed at replacing legacy backend systems with Java 21. It includes developing and maintaining secure enterprise solutions within high-availability environments using technologies such as IBM WebSphere, OpenShift, and z/OS.

Responsibilities

• Leading the end-to-end transformation of critical backend business logic from COBOL to Java.
• Designing and implementing complex application software and operational concepts.
• Conducting high-level technical analysis and providing architectural guidance within a dedicated Scrum team.
• Mentoring junior developers and ensuring overall code quality through rigorous reviews and advanced testing strategies.
• Optimizing code for high performance, low latency, and seamless user experience.
• Managing complex system integrations and coordinating knowledge transfer across technical units.
• Ensuring the security and integrity of data exchange between internal systems and external partners.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in Java 21 (Java EE) development, with a solid understanding of enterprise architecture, runtime environments, and core security standards for 5+ years.
• Extensive experience in designing and implementing backend solutions within complex enterprise infrastructures.
• Advanced hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server 9 / Liberty and containerized environments (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
• Profound knowledge of relational databases, specifically DB2, Oracle 23, and PostgreSQL, including performance tuning.
• Strong ability to read, analyze, and debug COBOL logic to ensure accurate translation of legacy business rules.
• Expertise in SOA and RESTful API development for seamless communication between legacy and modern components.
• Solid command of software modeling (OOA/OOD, UML) and business process modeling (BPMN).
• Proficiency in modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, and Maven/Git.
• Level of English – from Intermediate+ and above.
• Level of German – from Intermediate+ and above.
