Andersen is looking for an API Gateway Developer for a major project with a leading Georgian bank. The role focuses on improving API management, supporting the bank’s digital growth and platform reliability.
The customer is a leading financial institution headquartered in Georgia, recognized for its strong digital innovation, sustainable growth, and regional expansion. Listed on the London Stock Exchange and included in the FTSE 250 Index, it provides a full range of banking services across retail, SME, corporate, and microbusiness segments. The project is aimed at optimizing API management for banking systems by enhancing their security, stability, and visibility. It focuses on streamlining the development, publication, and automation of API processes to ensure reliable and scalable financial platform operations.
Responsibilities
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining API Gateway configurations using Kong API Gateway (routes, services, plugins, consumers, upstreams).
- Implementing and enhancing authentication and authorization mechanisms using Kong's native tools and capabilities.
- Developing and improving traffic monitoring and gateway health capabilities using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Graylog, or similar.
- Supporting platform health monitoring using Kong Konnect Analytics, Prometheus, Grafana, Graylog, or similar tools, as needed.
- Designing, implementing, and managing the Kong Konnect API Catalog (e.g., API Products, Product Versions, DevPortal).
- Building and standardizing automation approaches using tools like Kong Deck, custom in-house solutions, and other automation processes.
- Developing custom plugins using Lua to extend Kong's functionality, if required.
- Collaborating with DevOps teams to integrate Kong with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps).
- Participating in technical discussions with vendors.
Requirements
- Experience with API Gateway for 3+ years.
- Strong knowledge of RESTful API design and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
- Familiarity with API design patterns, including rate limiting, throttling, and traffic management.
- Experience in API Management implementation and modernization.
- Solid understanding of API security standards (OAuth, JWT, SSL/TLS).
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Understanding of DevOps principles and hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, Azure DevOps).
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Graylog, ELK).
- Practical experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using .NET Core / ASP.NET Core frameworks.
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- English – from Intermediate+ and above.
Desired skills
- Experience with IaC tools like Terraform for Kong configuration management.
- Knowledge of secure and scalable API deployment strategies across hybrid and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, on-premises).
- Understanding of service meshes and alternative API protocols.
